There was a graduation at the Mountain tonight. Another woman in the Mountain Ministries Women of Faith program graduated. It's usually a one year program. It took this woman a little over 18 months to get through it.
This was her 2nd attempt. She stuck it out for 30 days in 2011 ... and walked away. She ended up on the streets again. Her older son went to relatives... friends... She came back into the program with her younger son in tow. She had set backs but she never gave up this time. She had time added for breaking rules or just not making good choices ... that's why it took her six months longer to get through it.
Tonight she was watched and cheered on by her older son as she graduated to a standing ovation. A family member had gone through some boxes and found a Bible with her older son's name written in it. Her older son didn't want it so he brought it to his mom at the Mountain. She knew it had been her mother's Bible... and that's why her son's name was written in it. The grandmother wanted her grandson to have it someday. Well, he didn't really want it so he left it with his mom. Time passed... he started coming to see his mom... more... coming to church with his mom at the Mountain... and then one day he asked for his Bible back... he wanted to read it. He's a Believer now, too. So many lives changed in just 18 months.
She is the 20th graduate this year from the Women's program. Next Sunday there will be another woman graduating. She will be the 21st.
The men's program has it's special stories as well. One of the graduates has become a pastor and has just been called to pastor a church near Astoria, Oregon.
God is working here. No doubt about that.
