The work on the main building continues (putting sound insulation on the gym ceiling and getting the cafeteria kitchen functioning ) BUT the focus has shifted to the remodel of the Maintenance Building to provide a living residence for Tad and Connie Kruse, the Directors of the Women's Mountain Ministry program.

The progress is slow because all of this, including materials, is done through donations.

And NO, Lou did not do most of this work. There are many hands helping here... Two other Hard Hats for Christ volunteers (Faith supported), Joe Newton and Jacob Thiel have put in many hours since they arrived a few months ago.

Unexpected things happen... like the fire in December that destroyed Gary & Fay Miller's home, the founders of Mountain Ministries.  Because of that fire, Tad and Connie had no place to live so having their residence finished at the Rainier facility became top priority. Work started the day after Christmas.

There were many "God Sightings".  Things that just seemed to fall into place.  Like the kitchen cabinets that were custom ordered by someone over a year ago at Home Depot but never picked up.  Beautiful wood upper and lower cabinets with granite counter tops. Paid for but never claimed.  Home Depot could not do anything with them but donate them to a clearing house that provides items for non-for-profit organizations like Mountain Ministries.

Lou and I went there for the FIRST TIME a couple of weeks ago just to see what items we might be able to use for the remodel.  There were stacks of office desks, dented washers and dryers in various need of repair, a whirl pool tub, piles of mattresses...and in the middle of the warehouse... four pallets loaded with this set of custom cabinets...that had just arrived a few days before. At first it was hard to tell exactly what it was but I think I realized in about 10 seconds that we were seeing a miracle in front of us.  A complete kitchen with every item marked and as we loaded it onto the truck we found a template taped to the counter top to show how it all went together.   

I wish you could have heard Tad's voice crack when I called to tell him that we had his kitchen... bring the big truck and a few guys to help load. (It took five guys to lift the granite counter top.)
